What happens if weather cancels my charter?

Charter weather cancellations fall into three categories.

1. Captain-initiated cancellation. The captain has full authority to call off a trip for unsafe conditions. Typical triggers in South Florida: - Small Craft Advisories or higher from the NWS. - Sustained winds over 25 knots or seas above 4-6 feet (depending on vessel). - Active lightning within the operating area. - Tropical storm watches or hurricane warnings.

When the captain cancels, CharterXO processes a full refund or offers a no-fee reschedule. Owners and captains do not keep fares for weather-canceled trips.

2. Marginal-weather reroute. Often conditions are borderline — windy offshore but calm inside Biscayne Bay, or thunderstorms on a narrow radar window that will clear. Captains routinely shift the itinerary inshore or shift the departure by a few hours rather than cancel. You get the same trip length, just modified route.

3. Guest-initiated cancellation for weather the captain considers safe. This is trickier. The standard platform policy is that guest-requested cancellations follow the standard cancellation tier (see your booking confirmation). If conditions are genuinely safe and you request to cancel anyway, captain discretion applies.

In every case, CharterXO support can broker a reschedule if rebooking is more convenient than refunding. Save the confirmation email and the captain's phone — weather decisions sometimes happen on the dock at the scheduled departure.
