Mega Yacht

An informal term for a large private yacht, typically 80-200 feet, with a professional crew.

Mega yacht is an informal category covering large private yachts, typically from around 80 feet up to approximately 200 feet. Mega yachts are crewed — a captain, engineer, chef, stewards, and deckhands are standard — and usually run on commercial registrations for charter use.

The boundary between "mega yacht" and "superyacht" is not defined by any official body. Common practice puts mega yacht at 80-200 feet and superyacht at 200+ feet, though marinas and press use the terms interchangeably.

For charters, mega yachts are booked for multi-day Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Bahamas trips. Daily rates typically range from $25,000 to $150,000+ depending on size, crew count, and destination — plus a standard 25-35% Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for fuel and provisions.

Examples

  • A 120-foot Benetti tri-deck motor yacht chartering in the Caribbean for $80,000/week.
  • A 150-foot Feadship crewed for a Mediterranean charter at $200,000/week plus APA.
