Superyacht

A private yacht typically 200 feet (60 meters) and larger, with a full professional crew and high-end interior.

A superyacht is a very large private yacht — typically 200 feet (60 meters) or greater by current industry use, though the term has historically been applied to anything over 80 feet. Superyachts carry a full professional crew (often 10-30+), meet commercial classification standards, and carry flag-state registrations suitable for international operation.

Superyachts in the 180-400 foot range are built by yards like Feadship, Lürssen, Benetti, and Oceanco, with build times of 3-5 years and costs from $50M to $500M+. Most are privately owned; many are available for weekly charter at rates from $200,000 to $2M+ per week plus APA.

Regulatory framework is considerably different: superyachts are classed by IACS members (ABS, Lloyd's, etc.), crewed under STCW standards, and subject to international MARPOL pollution rules. Charter operations require a commercial MCA Large Yacht Code registration or equivalent.

Examples

  • A 280-foot Lürssen superyacht chartering in the Mediterranean for $1.2M/week.
  • A 210-foot Benetti available for winter Caribbean charters out of St. Martin.
