Sportfish
A purpose-built yacht designed for offshore sport fishing, combining a cabin interior with a dedicated fighting cockpit.
A sportfish (or "sportfisher") is a purpose-built yacht designed to run offshore fast, stay out all day, and fight large pelagic fish from its cockpit. A sportfish typically has twin diesel inboards, a flying bridge, a large aft cockpit with a fighting chair or rocket launcher, a climate-controlled salon, and sleeping accommodations for overnight tournaments.
Sportfish yachts range from ~38 feet (weekend-tournament size) up to 100-foot custom Carolina builds. The category defines an entire sub-industry: custom builders like Viking, Hatteras, Bayliss, and Jarrett Bay deliver tournament-grade yachts with optimized weight distribution, dedicated tackle stowage, and refrigerated bait wells.
For charter, sportfish yachts command premium rates — they're the preferred platform for serious offshore charters, tournaments, and long-range billfish trips.
Examples
